Early Run Leads C of I Past NW Christian, 77-36
CALDWELL, Idaho - A monster 34-3 run to open the game paved the way for The College of Idaho women's basketball team to tie a school record with their 13th-straight win, defeating Northwest Christian, 77-36, tonight in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The No. 17 ranked Lady Yotes (13-1, 4-0 CCC) hit nine of their first ten shots in the first four minutes, including four three-pointers, cruising to a 22-1 lead. It would get worse for the Beacons, as NCU converted just one of their first 12 shots, seeing the margin reach 30-points just nine minutes into the game.
The C of I would lead by as many as 46 points in their biggest Cascade Conference win since the 2000-01 season, when they defeated Evergreen State 80-36.
No Coyote player saw more than 21 minutes of action, as all 19 players on the roster saw time on the floor - with Christon Vander Esch leading the way with 17 points and six rebounds in 17 minutes of action. Nicole Bruce had eight points and nine rebounds, Nicole Gall had eight points and five assists, Meghan Hughes had eight points and eight rebounds, and Whitney Owen added eight points and six rebounds - as 15 different players scored.
The Beacons (5-10, 0-6), who remain winless in league play, made just 25-percent of their field goal attempts and converted 8-of-23 shots from the foul line. Emily Gray led NCU with 14 points and seven rebounds before leaving the game with an apparent injury inside the final five minutes.
The Lady Yotes return to action on Tuesday, hosting rival Eastern Oregon at 5:30 p.m.
