Lady Yotes Roll Past Eastern, 79-50
CALDWELL, Idaho - Nicole Gall scored a game-high 26 points as The College of Idaho set a new school record for consecutive wins, sprinting past rival Eastern Oregon, 79-50, tonight in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
For the No. 15 ranked Lady Yotes (14-1, 5-0 CCC), it was their 14th-straight win in a row, surpassing the former mark set by the 1996-97 squad. It also marked just the second regular-season win over EOU since 2001 and the largest victory margin over the Mountaineers (7-4, 3-2) since a 77-35 win during the 2000-01 season.
Gall got the Yotes off on the right foot, scoring the first eight points for The C of I, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. EOU would tie the score at 8-8 on an Ashlee Michelson lay-up, but it was all Coyotes from there, holding the visitors to just one made field goal over a nine minute stretch - building a 37-22 lead at the half. The Purple and Gold would score 13-straight points early in the second half, keyed by a pair of triples from Christon Vander Esch and a trey from Gall, as the lead would balloon to 71-37 with nine minutes left.
Gall added six steals and four assists in the win, with Whitney Owen coming off the bench to score 14 points. Vander Esch had ten points, seven rebounds, and five steals in the win, as The C of I forced 34 Mountie turnovers.
Brianna Smith was the offense for EOU, scoring 19 points - the lone Mountaineer in double figures.
The Lady Yotes return to action this weekend with a pair of road games - Friday at Northwest and Saturday at Evergreen State. Both games can be heard live in the Treasure Valley on 1490 KCID-AM, beginning at 6:15 p.m.
