Swain Hits For 28, But T-Birds Fall To WPC
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. - For the third game in a row the T-Birds built a sizeable early lead, only to see the shooting go astray late as Warner Pacific defeated Cascade 70-66 in women's basketball action last night.
This time the Thunderbirds forged a 11 point advatange in the first half behind Robin Swain's 16 counters and holding the Knights to 23 total points in the period.
Early in the second period the hosts pushed the lead out 16 on a Karli Thomas trey, but that's when the shooting went cold for Cascade and WPC began to climb back.
Warner Pacific steadily chipped away at the deficit and took a 67-63 lead with :30 to play on two Jacque Barton free throws. Moments later, Swain hit one of her six three pointer on the night to bring Cascade back to within one, but the visitors made 3 of 4 freebies down the stretch to provide the final Margin.
Swain scored 28 points for the second game in a row to pace Cascade. Kristina Schumacher added 14 points.
Barton nearly tallied a triple-double for WPC scoring 18, grabbing 10 rebounds, and passing for 8 assists.
Warner Pacific improves to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in CCC play. Cascade falls to 8-4 and 1-3.
