The Mountaineers cruise past the Beacons on Senior Day

LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon soccer team had an offensive explosion on Senior Day at EOU defeating Northwest Christian, 7-1.

In the final home game for the Mountaineers this season, EOU dominated all facets of Saturday's match against the Beacons. Eastern senior, Tennly Paul-Bowden, had a great home finale finishing with three goals and an assist. She shot 11 times in the game. The Mountaineers have only shot 11 or more twice this season as a team.

"Today we played as a team that I signed on to be a part of," Paul-Bowden said. "I couldn't be more proud of my sisters and the way we pulled together today."

Saturday Eastern Oregon shot 35 times, 19 times on goal. Paul-Bowden had six shots on goal. The Beacons shot 15 times, nine on the goal. EOU's Lauren Robideau shot seven times, three on goal, and had one goal and an assist.

The Mountaineers used three goalkeepers and Allison Seymour led EOU with eight saves. Calie McVicker led the Beacons with 11 saves.

Kalah Minter got the scoring started in the ninth minute with a penalty kick. Two minutes later Paul-Bowden found senior Lori Wilson to put EOU up, 2-0. Paul-Bowden got her first goal in the 26th minute off of a Robideau assist. Senior defender Martha Billings headed in a corner kick from Wilson a minute later.

The senior showcase continued when senior Ashley Julian assisted Paul-Bowden's second goal in the 50th minute. Julian returned Friday from an injury she obtained in the Mountaineers' first game of the season. Robideau scored an unassisted goal in the 57th minute of play. Senior Courtney Gaskell found Paul-Bowden for her third and final goal of the game in the 72nd minute.

Heather Henderson scored Northwest Christian's lone goal. It was the midfielder's fourth goal of the season. The Beacons fall to 2-11 overall and 1-4 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Mountaineers improve to 4-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play. EOU's 12 points is tied for second place with Concordia and Corban.

EOU travels to The College of Idaho next Saturday. The 'Yotes sit atop the league standings with 15 points, but fell Saturday at home to Corban, 3-2.
