Warriors snap Lady Yotes eight-game win streak

CALDWELL, Idaho - A pair of goals in the final eleven minutes helped Corban College to a key 3-2 victory over The College of Idaho in a Cascade Conference women's soccer matchup at Simplot Stadium.

Erin Laughlin scored the game-winner for the Warriors (7-5-2, 4-1 CCC) with just under three minutes to play, snagging a loose ball in the Coyote box and flicking it into the left corner of the net.

Katie Hanson got Corban on the board in the 19th minute, lacing a free kick from 20-yards out into the net - ending the Lady Yotes (10-2, 5-1) consecutive minutes streak without allowing a goal at 740.

However, the Yotes took advantage of eight first half corner kicks for outstanding opportunities, as Jessica Ayala nearly tied it in the 27th minute with a flick that went just high, Brittney Hulin launched a 25-yard strike that Jennifer Bassett had to make a diving save, and a flick in the 32nd minute by Ayala that the Warrior defense cleared off the goal line. The C of I would break through in the 33rd minute, as Lauren Winterholler bent in a corner from the far side to tie the score.

Just before halftime, the Coyotes would take the lead, as off another corner, Winterholler served a ball to the far post, where Colleen Smith touched it home for a 2-1 lead.

The C of I had multiple breakaway chances in the second half, but could not break Bassett, who had eight saves in the win. The tide would swing in the 77th minute, as Jessica Matthews launched a shot off the crossbar, then drove a rebound shot that forced Coyote keeper Kelly Hardegree-Ullman to make a nice save. Three minutes later, Hanson served up a free kick from the right side, finding Amanda Mendenhall at the far post for the tying goal.

The Yotes dominated statistically, holding a 23-12 edge in shots and a 10-2 edge in corners - but saw their school-record eight-game win streak snapped.

The C of I returns to action next Saturday, hosting Eastern Oregon in their home finale at 1 p.m.
