No. 6 College of Idaho Trips Up Owls

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech volleyball team suffered their second consecutive conference loss tonight to No. 6 ranked College of Idaho 25-14, 25-18, 25-11. The Owls are now 4-15 on the season and 3-8 in conference play. College of Idaho improves to 14-2 and 10-1 in league play.
A 4-0 start and a 6-3 run got the Yotes off to a 10-3 lead to begin set 1. Four straight would then pull the Owls to within three, 10-7, and eventually cut the Tech deficit to 12-10. However, the Yote defense at the net was too tough to overcome, as four consecutive blocks helped C of I to an 18-10 advantage and propelled them to a 25-14 win.
The Owls put things together to start set 2, trailing only 10-9. The see-saw continued with the Yotes holding a slim 15-13 advantage. Seven straight points by the visiting team would end any hopes of an Owl rally in set 2, as Tech fell 25-18.
It was all College of Idaho in set 3, as Tech fell behind quickly 9-0 and never got any closer than eight points – dropping the final set 25-11.
For the Owls it was Christine Bansen and Megan Christensen with five kills each, followed by Joey Larsen, Miranda Weitz and Mikayla Morgan with four kills apiece. Jackie Polette, Joey Larsen and Sarah Svedin all tied for a team-high eight digs.
Jessie Link led all players with a match-high nine kills. Naomi Reimer tallied seven kills and five digs, followed by Kristin Henning with six kill, five block assists and one solo. Libero Whitney Owen totaled a match-high 15 digs with Madie Machurek picking up eight digs of her own.
Oregon Tech finished with a -.064 hitting, while C of I hit at a .253 clip on the night. Idaho held a 12 to 5 advantage in total blocks and totaled 35 kills to Tech’s 24.
Oregon Tech look’s to get back on the winning track when they travel to Portland to take on Warner Pacific and Concordia University this Friday and Saturday.
