EOU Sponsor Spotlight: Goss Motors
Local auto dealership has been a long time supporter of EOU Athletics
Barrett Henderson, EOU Sports Information Director
One walk downtown La Grande and you are sure to notice MJ Goss Motor Company. The dealership has been a fixture in our community since 1922 and has been in the Goss family all of that time.
A trademark of the business is tremendous community support. Although owner Mark Goss shys away from any publicity, he and his family are involved in countless efforts throughout the year supporting various youth initiatives, economic development and of course, and education.
MJ Goss Motor Company will again be a key sponsor of the 11th annual Mountaineer Athletic Association Scholarship Scramble. This year, a 2010 Camaro Coup 2SS will be one of the prizes during the scramble for a hole in one on No. 7. “Mark Goss is a guy you can count on year in and year out to support the efforts of the community” Rob Cashell, Director of Athletics said. “He is in every sense service oriented and humble about it.”
Goss’s efforts on behalf of the local community earned him national recognition this past February when he became a nominee in Time Magazine’s Car Dealer of the Year competition. The Time award is given to a dealer who succeeds both in business and community service. Out of thousands of dealers across the nation, only 49 are nominated each year. Mark was also chosen as Business Man of the Year by the local Chamber of Commerce for 2008-2009.
"We enjoy supporting Mountaineer athletics," Goss said. "It's important to reach out and be a member of the community and being a part of EOU is perfect. If we can do anything for the students we're all for it."
