CCC Players of the Week Named in 4 Sports

The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Oct. 5-11:

 

Women’s Soccer

Offensive – Eastern Oregon’s Tennly Paul-Bowden (Payette, Idaho), playing in her final regular season home game, had three goals and an assist in a win over Northwest Christian. Other nominees: Emily Tsugawa, Corban; Katie O’Brien, Oregon Tech; Kaitlyn Tebbs, Concordia.

Defensive – Oregon Tech sophomore defender Brooke Cole (Portland, Ore.) led an Owl defense which recorded its seventh and eighth shutouts of the season. Cole, playing sweeper, helped stifle a number of opposition attacks as OIT defeated Northwest 3-0 and Evergreen 1-0. Other nominees: Allison Seymore, Eastern Oregon; Jennifer Bassett, Corban; Brittany Orr, Concordia; Jessica Kuehlwein, Southern Oregon.

Men’s Soccer

Offensive – Concordia freshman midfielder Jared Brace (Vancouver, Wash.) scored two goals and notched two assists as the Cavaliers posted victories over Evergreen and College of Idaho. Brace had the game-winning goal vs. Evergreen and assisted on the game-clinching goal vs. College of Idaho. Brace leads the CCC in six offensive categories. Other nominees: Jesus Lopez, College of Idaho; Johnny Theopholis, Evergreen; Carlos Pehr, Warner Pacific; Devin Torrey, Oregon Tech.

Defensive – Warner Pacific junior keeper Sean Ervin (Vancouver, Wash.) turned back five shots and allowed no goals in 135 minutes of action as the Knights posted shutout wins over Corban and College of Idaho. It is the second consecutive week in which Ervin has been honored by the CCC. Other nominees: Nathan Salveson, Evergreen; Aaron Franklin, Corban; Tommy Burden, Oregon Tech; Claudio Lazar, Concordia.

Volleyball

Hitter – Southern Oregon junior Chelsea Hartman (Lebanon, Ore.) had 23 kills and only seven errors to help the Raiders knock off No. 6-ranked College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon and move into a tie for first place in the CCC. The 15th-ranked Raiders extended their winning streak to seven straight while improving to 16-2 overall. Other nominees: Ciciley Fox, College of Idaho; Haley McEnroe, Eastern Oregon; Jazzmin Garcia, Evergreen; Chandra Baskoro, Corban; Raluca Dinca, Concordia.

Setter – College of Idaho junior Madie Machurek (Eagle, Idaho) totaled 54 assists in the Yotes’ two games last week while working out of a 6-2 formation. Machurek had 30 assists vs. No. 15 Southern Oregon and 24 vs. an Eastern Oregon team that is receiving votes in the national poll. Other nominees: Chelsea Herron, Eastern Oregon; Meghan De La Rosa, Evergreen; Megan Dees, Corban; Skyler Kamaka, Concordia.

Libero – Southern Oregon sophomore Becky Johnstone (Lake Arrowhead, Calif.) totaled 53 digs as the 15th-ranked Raiders posted victories over No. 6 College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon to improve to 10-1 in CCC play and 16-2 overall. Other nominees: Whitney Owen, College of Idaho; Kaitlyn Duncan, Eastern Oregon; Rebecca Franke, Corban; Kim Lindow, Concordia.

Golf

Men -- Northwest Christian senior Justin Ahrens (Eugene, Ore.) earned the honor for the second consecutive week after winning the Concordia Invitational and the Cavalier Classic in Portland. His three-round total of 210 in the Cavalier Classic was a school record. Other nominees: Jacob Reyes, College of Idaho; Joey Duwe, Corban; Taylor Shimomura, Concordia.

Women – Concordia senior Kim Lindow (Gresham, Ore.) followed up a weekend of CCC volleyball with an impressive 54-hole performance to lead the Cavs to the team title in their own invitational. Lindow fired rounds of 79-76-77 on her way to a second-place individual finish. Other nominees: Cecilia Garcia, College of Idaho; Hailey Thomas, Corban.
