BLUE RIVER, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men’s golf team closed out the fall golf season by winning their third consecutive tournament, grabbing a 17-stroke win over Pacific University in a dual match at Tokatee Golf Course on Monday.
The Beacons shot a 305 in the opening round on Sunday to establish an eight-stroke lead and with a 315 on Monday, expanded the lead to 17 shots, winning 620-637. Justin Ahrens led the way for the Beacons, shooting a 1-over 145 over the two rounds to take second place. Brent McKee followed in third place with a 149.
Josh Samples took fourth place overall (75-85=160) and Chase Cleaver was in seventh (83-83=166). Cleaver was tied by Myron Clements (80-86) and they were followed by Kiger Plews in 12th (84-90=174). Michael Lambert rounded out the NCU contingent with an 82-93=175. Max Bonk of Pacific earned medalist honors, shooting a 4-under 140 for the tournament, defeating Ahrens by five shots.
This tournament closes out the fall season and the Beacons will be back in action on March 14, 2010 at the Simpson University Invitational.
