SOU's Denise Powell worked her way around the Warner Pacific defense for two goals Friday afternoon.
Powell Leads Raiders To Fourth Straight Win
ASHLAND, ORE. -- Denise Powell had two second half goals as Southern Oregon won its fourth-straight with a 2-0 victory over Warner Pacific today at University Field.
Southern Oregon improved to 6-7-1 overall and 4-2 in Cascade Conference play. Warner Pacific fell to 1-9-3 overall and 1-4-1 in conference action. Southern Oregon hosts fifth-ranked Concordia Saturday at 3 p.m.
Powell got the Raiders on the board at the 47 minute mark off a pass from Renay Norman for a 1-0 lead.
At the 81 minute mark, Powell again found the back of the net, this one off a great pass through the box by Stephanie Carr.
“Denise got a pair of great opportunistic goals today,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said. “Her run selection was really good today.”
The Southern Oregon defense limited Warner Pacific nine shots and only three shots on goal, all of which were saved by freshman keeper Catherine Savitch - who was making her first career start. SOU now has four shutouts in a row.
“We had a really compact defense and did a nice job of dealing with the balls and making good decisions,” Clement said.
Offensively, the Raiders had nine shots on goal with Powell leading the way with five. Sara Switzer, Auika Muragin, Lauren Maserjian and Renay Norman all shots on goal for SOU.
