Raiders Sweep Cavs to Maintain Share of CCC Lead
PORTLAND, Ore.—After sweating out a five-game match in Ashland earlier in the season, Southern Oregon dispatched Concordia 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15) in a road match against the Cavaliers on Friday night.
With the win, Southern Oregon improved to 11-1 in league play to maintain a share of the Cascade Collegiate Conference lead with College of Idaho. The Raiders now stand at 17-2 overall on the season while CU dropped to 11-7 and 83 in the CCC.
The SOU duo of Sarah Holgen (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Natalie Scheller (Bend, Ore.) combined for 21 kills with each taking 18 swings. Holgen edged her teammate 11-to-10 for the team high while hitting at a .500 success rate.
The Raiders also had a one-count difference for the team lead in assists as Angela Spieker (Bremerton, Wash.) tallied 17 assists to Caryn Westrick’s (Bonney Lake, Wash.) 16.
Mariana Toscano (Portland, Ore.) was the lone Cavalier to reach double figures with 10 kills on 24 attempts. CU’s Skyler Kamaka (Kaneohe, Hawaii) led the court with 28 assists and Aria Nojima (Gresham, Ore.) tracked eight digs for a match high.
The Raiders fired at a .440 clip to take the first game 25-20. The road team continued to put pressure on the Cavs throughout the match; widening the margin’s in the two successive games beginning with a 25-17 win and followed by a 25-15 clincher to complete the sweep.
Concordia remains at home on Saturday when it hosts Oregon Tech while SOU will head cross town to face Warner Pacific. Both matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
