Yotes Keep Rolling, Knock Off Raiders 1-0
ASHLAND, ORE. -- Taylor Culver’s second half goal allowed the College of Idaho women’s soccer team to remain perfect in Cascade Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Southern Oregon this afternoon at University Field.
College of Idaho improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in conference matches. Southern Oregon dropped to 2-7-1 overall and 0-2 in conference. The Raiders host Eastern Oregon Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, Culver put the Coyotes on the board with a goal from 10 yards out at the 66 minute mark off an assist by Jamie Reichel. The ball barely got past Jessica Kuehlwein, SOU’s diving goalie.
“Against a good team if you lose shape one time, they will make you pay for it and that’s what happened,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said.
After the Coyotes out-shot the Raiders 11-3 in the first half, the Raiders came out as the aggressive team to start the second half and finished the half with a 4-3 shot advantage.
“I really thought we did a great job of recapturing the game in the second half,” Clement said. “We did a nice job of pushing the tempo. Overall we had some really good moments of good play, but we are still a little inconsistent.”
Erica Mouritsen, the conference’s leading goal scorer, was held scoreless - but finished with five shots and three shots on goal for the Coyotes.
Kuehlwein finished with seven saves for the Raiders, while Alexis Mahoney, Stephanie Carr and Mo Costello all had shots on goal for the Raiders.
