WPC Head Coach Bernie Fagan
Knights Stumble Versus Northwest U.
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. - NU's Mason Bochner headed a volley over the outstretched hand of WPC keeper Sean Ervin to upset Warner Pacific in a double overtime thriller at Portland Christian HS tonight.
After several days of rain, the soft grass at the PCHS field made for some unsure footing and neither side could muster much offense. NU threatened at the 77:12 mark with a Miguel Galvan shot that Ervin saved nicely. Warner Pacific nearly won the match with under 10 seconds remaining in regulation, but Pat Connolly's effort from 20 yards missed right by a few inches.
After a tense and hard fought first overtime, the Eagle heroics came 1:20 into the second overtime. Bochner put his head to a Drew Jensen crossing pass that looped over Ervin and just below the crossbar to give the Eagles the golden goal.
For the game, shots were nearly even, with NU recording 11 to the Knights 9. The Eagles also led in corner kicks 6-3.
Warner Pacific falls to 9-4-0 overall and 8-2-0 in the CCC, but remains atop the league standings. Northwest improves to 7-5-2 and 5-5-0.
