PORTLAND, Ore. –College of Idaho registered only three shot attempts but made the most of them as they defeated No. 5 Concordia 2-1 in overtime in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s soccer action on Friday afternoon.

The loss halted Concordia’s 41-game winning streak in regular season CCC matches with their last loss a 1-0 setback occurring on Sept. 28, 2005 against Evergreen State. It was the first win for C of I over the Cavaliers since 1996 and are now 3-23-1 all-time against Concordia with CU capturing the last 22 matches against the Yotes prior to today’s result.

The two teams share the conference lead with identical 7-1-0 records in league play. Concordia fell to 15-2-0 overall on the year while C of I improved to 12-2-0.

C of I managed just a single shot in each period but converted on two occasions. After a scoreless first half, the Yotes opened up the game’s scoring with a Taylor Culver blast off a free kick just outside the CU box in the 49th minute of play.

Striking for 16 total shots, the Cavaliers were finally able to find the net in the 79th minute with an Alex Thomas score via a mid-field feed from teammate Jessica Ramback.

Taking the lone shot in overtime, C of I notched the golden goal on the second of back-to-back corner kicks by Lauren Winterholler. On her second attempt, Winterholler’s corner set up a Colleen Smith header at the 92:47 mark to end the contest in the first extra session.

“When you outshoot a team 17-to-3 you hope to win the game but that didn’t happen for us,” Concordia head coach Grant Landy said. “Soccer comes down to those free pieces and they converted. I have to keep reminding myself that we are a young team. We fought hard and got chances, but we won’t let one result dictate how we play the rest of the year.”

Concordia finishes off the regular season at home against Eastern Oregon with a 3 p.m. match at Delta Park. College of Idaho concludes its regular season at Warner Pacific with a 1 p.m. match against the Knights.
