HERMISTON, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team had little trouble with Walla Walla University to begin the 2009-10 schedule.

In Isaac Williams’ debut as the new head coach for Eastern Oregon, the Mountaineers flourished staying near 75 percent shooting Tuesday versus the Wolves. EOU ended shooting 69 percent, and won 103-67.

Eastern was paced by five double digit scorers, led by Steven Sawyers 19 points. The senior enjoyed his first game back since 2007-08 after redshirting last season. He was 9 for 12 from the field, with six rebounds, and added three steals.

Senior Jordan Gregg finished the night shooting 6 for 6 with 14 points and eight rebounds in 16 minutes of play. The Mountaineer starters shot 19 for 23 in the game, 82 percent from the field.

Jacques Wilson ended his debut in an EOU uniform with 13 points on 4 of 5 shooting from the field. Thomas McCarthy was 5 for 7 with 12 points, and Dan Stafford was 4 for 4 with 11 points. Stafford and Josh Cottle each had game-highs of five assists.

Mark Moore led Walla Walla with 16 points. The freshman was 5 for 18 from the field, including 3 of 7 behind the perimeter.

The Mountaineers outscored the Wolves 58-28 in the paint, and off the bench, 53-30. Eastern Oregon hosts The Aramark Quinn Classic on Nov. 6 and 7 in La Grande. WWU will play in the tournament, but not meet EOU. Eastern Oregon will play Montana Western, Nov. 6, and Montana Tech, Nov. 7.
