PORTLAND, Ore. – A goal in each half, combined with some stout defense helped Warner Pacific College to a 2-0 win over Evergreen State College today at Portland Christian HS.

The win pushes Warner Pacific into tie atop the CCC men's soccer standings at 5-1-0 (6-3-0 overall). The Geoducks fall to 2-1-1 in conference and 2-2-2 overall.

The Knights struck early in the contest thanks to a Rob Patterson header from close in. Andrew Scott was credited with the assist for his flip throw that was fired into the penalty area, finding Patterson’s head at the 11:39 mark.

The score remained 1-0 for the rest of the half, though the Knights out shot the Greeners 7-2 and continued to apply the offensive pressure.

Evergreen emerged from the halftime break determined to be the aggressor and succeeded for the better part of the period, out shooting the hosts 7-4. Corey Johnson cracked a dangerous 15 yard shot midway through the half that Knight keeper Sean Ervin turned away nicely.

Not to be denied, WPC added an insurance goal at 78:53 off the foot of Joel Duenas, his 4th of the season. Cody St. John was the helper, threading a nice through pass that Duenas was able to finish.

Ervin made 5 saves on the night to earn the shutout win for WPC. Nathan Salveson stopped 5 shots for Evergreen in the loss.

The Knights will be back in action next Tuesday, October 6th, hosting Corban College at 4pm at Portland Christian.
