Raiders Explode In Win Over EOU
ASHLAND, ORE. -- The Southern Oregon women’s soccer team snapped a two-match losing streak with a 4-0 rout of Eastern Oregon today at University Field.
The Raiders are now 3-7-1 overall and 1-2 in Cascade Conference play. Eastern Oregon dropped to 3-5 overall and 3-1 in conference.
Southern Oregon wasted little time grabbing control of the match, scoring at the 1:01 mark of match on a long rainbow free kick from freshman Tori Chambliss.
The score stayed 1-0 until the second half when SOU exploded, scoring three goals in 20 minutes.
Freshman Alexis Mahoney made the score 2-0 with a series of one-on-one moves before finding the far left corner of the next. Nine minutes later, Mahoney scored again, this one from point blank range after an assist by Sara Switzer and a 3-0 lead.
SOU put the match out of reach as Stacy Szeto connected from six yards out after a throw-in from Chenin Young.
“Getting that first goal was really important and really helped our confidence,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said. “After halftime we did a really good job of raising our level again and taking control of the match. We really linked together today and we are capable of playing like this day-in and day-out.”
SOU blistered the EOU defense with 25 shots and 18 shots on goal. Mahoney finished with five shots on goal, while Szeto had four and Switzer had three.
