SOU Men Upend UBC, Embry-Riddle

SALEM, ORE. -- The sixth-ranked Southern Oregon men’s cross country team knocked off a pair of ranked teams and scored an impressive team victory at today’s Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem.
The Raiders finished with 41 points to claim the team race, while seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle was second at 49 points and fifth-ranked British Columbia finished third with 94 points. Eastern Oregon was the next closest Cascade Conference finisher at fifth with 201 points.
David Laney again was the star for the Raiders, leading a tight SOU pack with a second place finish with a time of 24:13. Chris Paterson finished 11th in 24:33, while Ryan Sorenson finished 19th in 24:49, freshman Zach Elliott finished 20th in 24:50 and Ryan Ghelfi finished 22nd in 24:57.
Out of 279 runners, SOU had five in the Top 22.
“The men ran an awesome race,” SOU head coach Brent Ericksen said. “To have all five running under 25 minutes with sub 5:00 miles is pretty incredible.”
The SOU women ran without one of their top runners and finished 13th with 295 points.
Seena Frantz finished 14th with a time of 17:56. Anya Martinez finished 38th (18:42), Kristen Juveland finished 103rd (19:45), Laurie Stoutenburgh finished 13th (19:54) and Silver Seibert finished 121st (20:02.91).
