Balanced Attack Leads SOU Men
ASHLAND, ORE -- Southern Oregon placed four players in double-digits and scored a season-opening 90-85 victory over Indiana East today at McNeal Pavilion.
Southern Oregon travels to Oregon State Saturday for an exhibition game. Indiana East travels to Oregon Tech Saturday night.
Ryan Staker led the Raiders in scoring in his SOU debut with 13 points. Justonn Smith and Drew Herrera both had 12 points and Austin Wolfer finished with 11 points.
Tyler Rigby and Channing Coffey both had 18 points for the Red Wolves.
Indiana East jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first half, before SOU came back and took the lead 31-30 on a Roland Jackson layup.
A 3-pointer by Trevor McCay and free throws by David Grant gave SOU a 46-43 lead at the half.
Indiana East again started hot in the second half, jumping out to a 65-60 lead, before again SOU came roaring back.
A pair of free throws by Smith tied the game at 67-67. Staker gave the Raiders a 75-73 lead with 5:45 to play and Humphrey Jackson pushed the lead to 77-73 with free throws.
Down the stretch, Herrera iced the game by going 6-for-8 from the free throw line.
For the game, SOU shot 45 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point land and 71 percent from the free throw line.
