PORTLAND, Ore.—The Concordia University women’s soccer team scored in the opening minute of play and never looked back in defeating Corban College 7-0 in the first round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s soccer tournament played at Delta Park on Saturday.

“One of our goals for the game was to get on the scoreboard early and have them chase us, so scoring in the first minute was a big boost,” Concordia head coach Grant Landy said.

No. 7 Concordia (17-2-0) will next travel to The College of Idaho (14-2-0) for the CCC Championship match against the No.1-seeded Yotes. Opening kick is tentatively set for noon on Nov. 6 in Caldwell, Idaho. College of Idaho defeated Oregon Tech 4-0 in the opposite opening-round match. Corban ended its season with a 9-7-3 overall record.

Angie Turner (Salem, Ore.) put the Cavs on top after just 29 seconds of action with a header from deep inside the box after a feed from Jessica Ramback (Mill Creek, Wash.).

Concordia would add three more scores in the first half to take a commanding lead over the Warriors. Ramback notched back-to-back goals, the first in the 15th minute and the second in the 32nd minute before Jackie Hendrickson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) closed out the half with a goal in the 34th minute.

Hendrickson would return for her second straight score with a header from five yards out after a pass from Sami Andrews (Camas, Wash.) to put the Cavs up 5-0. Kaitlyn Tebbs (Salem, Ore.) added a score in the 73rd minute and Ramback closed out the game to post her third career hat trick with a goal in the 77th minute. Four of Concordia’s seven scores came via a header deep in enemy territory.

“Our services in the box and our goal-scoring urgency were some of the best of the season,” Landy said. “This should give us so good momentum going into the conference final next week.”

Andrews was credited with two assists as did Ramback to give the senior eight points in the contest. Also getting assists in the game were Lauryn Helmers (Puyallup, Wash.) and Kelton McFadden (Boise, Idaho).

Corban more than doubled the Cavaliers in corner kick opportunities with the final tally 5-to-2. The Cavaliers, however, totaled 22 shots to the Warriors’ nine. Five of Corban nine shots were on goal with the Cavalier goalie duo of Georgie Christensen (Hillsboro, Ore.) and Tori Talbutt (Boise, Idaho) combining for five saves in the shutout. The five shots on goal for the Warriors came from five different players. Aman Menenhall (Windsor, Calif.) led the Warrior offense with three of the team’s nine attempts.

Jennifer Bassett (Keizer, Ore.) played the full 90 minutes in front of the net for Corban, collecting three saves.
