Eagle Come From Behind to Defeat Corban
SALEM, Ore. – The NU Eagle men scored two second half goals to overcome a halftime deficit and defeat Corban College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in Cascade Conference play.
Jin–Hoon Brooks gave Corban (1-7-1, 0-6-0 CCC) the 1-0 lead with his goal off a free kick 11:56 into the first half. Neither team would score the remainder of the half as Corban outshot Northwest 6-5.
Northwest U. (3-4-2, 1-4-1 CCC) tied the score just 1 minute and 58 seconds into the second half when senior Brandon Screen hit his 23 yard free kick into the goal net. Miguel Galvan would put the Eagles ahead for good with his goal at the 72:32 mark off a crossing pass from teammate James Kerr. NU picked up their offensive pace in the half as they out shot Corban 12-4. Screen led NU with 4 shots while freshman Alex Taylor had three shots for the Eagles.
NU goalkeeper, Brian Swanson, registered 4 saves with three coming in the second half.
“The boys played well today and it’s good to get our first conference win,” stated NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. “The team worked hard and deserved the win and it’s always tough to win on the road in our conference.”
