CCC Players of the Week Named in 5 Sports

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Sept. 28-Oct. 4:

Women’s Soccer

Offensive – Concordia’s Jessica Ramback (Mill Creek, Wash.) scored two goals in two games for the sixth-ranked Cavaliers, including the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Northwest. She also scored the clincher in the final minutes of a 2-0 win over Evergreen. Other nominees: Erika Mouritsen, College of Idaho; Kalah Minter, Eastern Oregon; Alexis Mahoney, Southern Oregon; Marissa Walter, Corban.

Defensive – College of Idaho’s Kelly Hardegree-Ullman (Boise, Idaho) recorded back-to-back shutouts for the Lady Yotes, who extended their win streak to a school-record seven games with wins over Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech. C of I also extended its scoreless streak to 631 minutes. Other nominees: Allison Seymore, Eastern Oregon; Jessica Kuehlwein, Southern Oregon; Lacey Golden, Warner Pacific; Jennifer Bassett, Corban.

Men’s Soccer

Offensive – Warner Pacific’s Alija Sacirovic (Gresham, Ore.) had two goals in a 3-1 win over Northwest University as the Knights went 2-0 during the week. Other nominees: Jon Wilkins, Concordia; Mark Mendenhall, Corban.

Defensive – Warner Pacific goalkeeper Sean Ervin (Vancouver, Wash.) posted a shutout over Evergreen and allowed just one goal in a 3-1 victory over Northwest. Ervin rejected 11 of the 12 shots on goal he faced in the two matches. Other nominees: Aaron Reynolds, College of Idaho; Tommy Burden, Oregon Tech; Aaron Franklin, Corban.

Volleyball

Hitter – Concordia’s Mariana Toscano (Portland, Ore.) posted match highs in kills as the Cavs went 2-0. Toscano came up with five of the team’s 11 kills in the deciding fifth game of a victory over Northwest Christian and she hit .484 after notching 16 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Corban. Toscano added 26 digs in the two matches, including a season-best 18 vs. Corban. Other nominees: Ciciley Fox, College of Idaho; Grace DeBoodt, Eastern Oregon; Leanne Stennett, Southern Oregon; Leah Gradwohl, Warner Pacific; Teri Braun, Corban.

Setter – Concordia’s Skyler Kamaka (Kaneohe, Hawaii) recorded 92% of the Cavs’ assists as they went 2-0. Kamaka had 53 assists vs. Northwest Christian and 42 vs. Corban, giving her six 40-plus assist efforts this season. Her 53-assist outing vs. NCU marked the second time this season she has had at least 50 assists in a match. Other nominees: Madie Machurek, College of Idaho; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Angela Spieker, Southern Oregon; Melita Elliot, Warner Pacific; Karisa Calderon, Corban.

Libero – College of Idaho’s Whitney Owen (Caldwell, Idaho) totaled 63 digs in three matches, including 31 in a four-set victory over NCAA Division II Northwest Nazarene. Owen averaged seven digs per set as the No. 7-ranked Yotes went 3-0. Other nominees: Kaitlyn Duncan, Eastern Oregon; Caitlyn Mitchell, Warner Pacific; Kim Lindow, Concordia; Rebecca Franke, Corban.

Cross Country

Men – Southern Oregon’s David Laney (Portland, Ore.) finished second overall and led the Raiders to the team title at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem. Laney posted a time of 24:13 over the 8,000-meter course, helping the sixth-ranked Raiders outscore fifth-ranked University of British Columbia, seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle and the other eight CCC teams entered in the event. Other nominees: Greg Montgomery, College of Idaho; DJ Flores, Eastern Oregon; Martin Romero-Clark, Concordia; Seth Bridges, Northwest; Caleb Goins, Corban.

Women – Concordia’s Alice Taylor (Auckland, New Zealand) was the first CCC runner to cross the line at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem. Taylor finished sixth overall in a field of 242 competitors, clocking a school-record time of 17:42 over the 5,000-meter course. Other nominees: Stephanie Helm, College of Idaho; Karlee Coffey, Eastern Oregon; Amy Renfro, Corban.

Golf

Women – Concordia’s Lindsay Aho (Brush Prairie, Wash.) set a school record with a one-under 71 in the first round of the Grand Canyon Invitational on her way to a fifth-place finish. Aho fired rounds of 71-73 to finish even par in the tournament. She was second among NAIA competitors.
