SALEM, Ore. – Without a pitching having been thrown during the upcoming 2010 season, third-year head coach Nathan Ohta has already signed his first player for 2011 with the addition of a local high school and Amateur Softball Association (ASA) talent.

Current McNary High School senior Courtney Castronovo (Keizer, Ore.) signed her Letter of Intent last week, as she became the first official member of the Class of 2014.

"Courtney is a quality individual that I am very excited to have join the Warrior softball program," said Ohta. "She is a skilled and athletic outfielder that has a strong bat, and we anticipate her being a big part of the success of Corban softball in the upcoming years."

The 5-foot-7 outfielder has competed for the Celtics during each of the past three seasons and will complete her prep career next spring patrolling McNary's outfield.

As a 2008 sophomore, Castronovo put together her best season when she was named 1st team all-conference as a center fielder, 1st team all-region by the Statesman Journal, and 3rd team all-state.

Following the conclusion of both her freshman and junior seasons, Castronovo was named 2nd all-conference as an outfielder.

Along with her time at McNary, Castronovo has also spent each of the past four summers as a member of ASA's Oregon Panthers. While competing with the Panthers, Castronovo was a member of the 14A team (2005-07) that advanced to the ASA Western Nationals and ASA Nationals. During the 2007-08 season, Castronovo moved up to the 16A team and helped the Panthers advance to the ASA Nationals. Castronovo concluded her time with the Panthers in 2008-09 as a member of the Gold squad.

Currently, Castronovo is a member of the Northwest Bullets 18 Gold team that finished 26-3 overall and took fifth place at the 2009 ASA Nationals.

Corban will open up the 2010 season on February 6th against NCAA Division III member Lewis & Clark beginning at noon in Portland.
