PORTLAND, Ore.—The Northwest Christian men’s golf team was three-strokes back after the first round of play but cut four strokes from their opening score en route to winning the Concordia Invite held at Heron Lakes Golf Course on Monday.

NCU (303-299—602) cracked the 300 mark in the second round to take the team title by 12 strokes while first-round leader Corban (300-314—618) fell to a tie for second place with Concordia (305-309—614) after carding a 314 in the afternoon round.

College of Idaho (330-314—644) cut 16 strokes from their opening round to finish in fifth place while Warner Pacific (333-321—654) finished in sixth place.

NCU’s Justin Ahrens won his second straight CCC event by firing a 5-under 139 to take medalist honors by seven strokes over Corban’s Joey Duwe (68-78—146). Ahrens’ teammate Brent McKee (73-75—148) followed in third place. Concordia’s Jonny Miller (75-75—15) and Taylor Shimomura (75-75—150) both fired back-to-back 75s to tie for fourth.

A third round of action took place on Tuesday as part of the Cavalier Classic, Rocky Mountain (280-289-299—868) ran away with the team crown with a 31-stroke margin over the University of Victoria (302-295-302—899). Paced by individual champion Ahrens, Northwest Christian (303-299-313—915) led the CCC contingent in third place.

Ahrens fired a 6-under 210 in the 54-hole tourney, outdistancing Rocky Mountain’s Marcus Segerstrom (65-71-76—212) by two swings. Rocky Mountain golfers placed 2-3-4 with Victoria’s Jordan Ediger (75-68-75—218) breaking the string in fifth place.

Duwe (68-78-74—220) topped the Corban crew in sixth place while Shimomura (75-75-79—229) held the top spot for Concordia by finishing in a tie for tenth.
