Oregon Tech Shuts Out Northwest U.

KIRKLAND, Wash. -  Oregon Tech’s Katie O’Brien scored two goals in leading the Owls to a 3-0 shutout of Northwest University this afternoon in Cascade Conference play. OIT improved its record to 9-3 over all and evened their conference record at 2-2.

 
Kayla Wilhelm (Jr., Grants Pass, Ore.) scored the first OIT goal and what would prove to be the game winner just 3:16 into the first half off a corner kick from teammate Brooke Cole (Soph., Portland, Ore.). The teams battled the remainder of the first half without a score as the Owls would take a 1-0 lead.
 
O’Brien (Sr., Jacksonville, Ore.) would score her first goal of the game at the 53:19 mark from 10 yards out on the left side off  an assist from Crystal Foster (Fresh., Redmond, Ore.). She would get on the scoreboard 5 minutes and 20 seconds later (58:39) from 20 yards out on the right side. Kayla Wilhelm was credited for the assist.
 
Oregon Tech (9-3, 2-2 CCC) made a high percentage of their shots as they edged NU 7-6 for the game. O’Brien led OIT with 5 shots with 4 of them shots on goal while junior Yanet Candido (Pasco, Wash.) would lead Northwest U. (1-8-2, 0-4-1 CCC) with two shots (1 shot on goal). Goalkeeper Megan Ross (Jr., Medford, Ore.) would earn the shut out with 2 saves. NU goalie, Jessica Kane (Soph., Issaquah, Wash.) had 3 saves for the Eagles.
 
NU remains at home on Saturday as they host Southern Oregon University on the NU Athletic Field with game time schedule for 1 p.m. Oregon Tech heads south to Olympia for a conference game with the Evergreen State College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
