Eagles Open Season With Win Over Cal Maritime
KIRKLAND, Wash. - The 2009-10 version of the Northwest University Eagle women's basketball team got off to a rousing start with a 94-64 victory over Cal Maritime in the Pavilion.
The Eagles led 50-37 at the half and out scored the Keelhaulers 44-27 in the second half for their first victory of the season.
Transfer Jessica Wilkerson led NU (1-0) with a game high 24 points shooting 50% from the floor. Senior guard Alexa Breidenbach dropped in 20 points and newcomer Kailee Oliver grabbed 11 rebounds for the Eagles. NU shot 53% from 2-point range on the night and held Cal Maritime 28.8% shooting from the floor. NU shot 70% from the freethrow line.
Taylor Himmelspach led the Keelhaulers (1-1) with 22 points and teammate Lauren Westbrook added 14 points. Cal Maritime shot 33.3% from 3-point range (11 for 33).
