PORTLAND, Ore.—Concordia senior Tyler Camp scored his fifth game-winner of the season with a penalty kick conversion in the first half to boost the Cavaliers to a 3-0 win over Northwest in the semifinals of the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament held at Delta Park on Tuesday.

With the win over Northwest, one of the three teams that defeated Concordia in conference play this season, Concordia will face Warner Pacific, a second team that stifled the Cavs this season, in a conference championship match on Nov. 14. Opening kick for the Warner Pacific home game in set for noon at David Douglass High School.

Concordia will look to avenge a CCC loss for the second straight contest as CU dropped a road match at Northwest 3-0 on Oct. 14 and a home game 2-1 against Warner Pacific three days later after posting wins against both clubs earlier in the season.

Defender Brad Bevens (Eugene, Ore.) vaulted the Cavs to an early lead by taking the ball down to the opposing end line and inducing a foul while inside the 18-yard box which led to Camp’s successful penalty kick against NU goalkeeper Brian Swanson (Everett, Wash.).

Neither team would find the net in the remainder of the first half despite a combined 12 shots, including nine attempts from CU. Midway through the second half, Concordia doubled its advantage as a Jared Brace (Vancouver, Wash.) dart in the 78th minute snuck past the Eagle defense.

Cody Carlberg (Portland, Ore.) setup the score with a touch through the middle after a CU interception near midfield. Brace would return the favor in the closing minute by setting up Carlberg for a goal of his own with 45 seconds to play, giving Concordia the 3-0 edge.

Northwest’s best opportunity occurred with 25 minutes remaining as Drew Jensen (Tacoma, Wash.) got free deep on the right side of the CU goal and fired a low drive from 18 yards which took off past the reach of Concordia’s diving keeper Claudio Lazar (Ploiesti, Romania) but kept its angle which resulted in the ball dribbling harmlessly outside the far post.

Concordia outshot the Eagles 19-to-11 and more than doubled its opponent in corner kicks (7-to-3). Lazar made four saves to pick up the shutout while Swanson collected five saves before being spelled by senior teammate Kyle Wall (Seattle, Wash.) with less than 11 minutes to play.
