BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington guard Harold McAllister scored 14 consecutive Viking points to help break open a tight contest and lead WWU to a 74-60 victory over Northwest University in a men’s basketball game Monday night on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium. The contest was an exhibition for NU and a counting game for WWU.

Western never trailed, opening up a 40-20 lead late in the first half and holding a 42-28 advantage at halftime. But the Eagles battled back, pulling to within five, 55-50, on a layin by Tyson Christie with 8:30 to play.

After the Vikings’ Cameron Severson layin, McAllister took over, hitting a trio of 3-pointers, then a reverse layin, and  capping the 14-point explosion with another 3-pointer, giving Western a 71-54 lead with 3:58 to play.

The Eagles (2-1) were led by the 14 points of center Greg George. Guards Rich Skillman and Stedman Richardson each had 13 points as the Eagles shot 46% on the night from 2-point range. Rebounding was even as both teams grabbed 35 rebounds.

Senior guard Morris Anderson had a game-high 15 points for the Vikings (3-1), who were playing their home opener. Forward Derrick Webb had 12 points for Western, which was 18-of-22 (81.8%) on free throws and shot 41% from 2-point FG range.

The Eagles will now travel to Caldwell, Idaho to take part in the Golden Rule Tournament hosted by the College of Idaho. NU will face Westminster (Utah) and Lewis-Clark State in non-conference match-ups on Nov. 20 and 21.
