Glisson Free Throws Push Knights Past L-C State
PORTLAND, Ore. – Jake Glisson sank two free throws with 10.2 seconds remaining to give Warner Pacific a 74-72 win over Lewis-Clark State tonight in non-conference play at C.C. Perry Gym.
The freebies were Glisson’s 22nd and 23rd points of the night as the senior led WP in scoring for the fourth time in five games.
The early portion of the game saw the Knights stake a 12-7 lead, but LC State used an 8-0 to surge ahead. From there game was tied five different times in the period, the last at 33-33 with 1:13 to play.
In the last moments of the half, Glisson would hit a three pointer and Stephen Harris scored on a putback to send the Knight into the locker rooms with a 38-33 lead.
WP jumped out to their largest lead of the game (51-39) at the 16:18 mark of the second period on a Tom Higgins trey. Another 8-0 run from the Warriors, capped by a Markus Monroe layup brought the visitors right back.
The teams traded buckets for the next ten minutes and with 1:03 to play, LC’s Jared Giamonna tied the game for the 6th time with two free throws.
The Knights could not score on their next possession, which left the Warriors with a chance to win on their final shot. Glisson however, stepped in front of a pass and was fouled on the fast break attempt, resulting in the clutch conversions from the line.
After a time out, LC State set up a play that was well executed, but James Craft’s jump shot fell off the iron at the buzzer.
The win for Warner Pacific avenges an 89-74 loss to the Warriors last week in Lewiston.
The Knights improve to 4-1 on the young season. Lewis-Clark State is handed their first loss, and now stands at 4-1.
