PORTLAND, Ore. -- Eight Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes have been recognized as CCC Players of the Week for their performances from Oct. 26-Nov. 1.
Volleyball
Hitter – Oregon Tech’s Megan Christensen (Klamath Falls, Ore.), a junior outside hitter, hit at a .406 clip to help the Owls sweep their weekend CCC series. Christensen had 19 kills each in victories over Northwest Christian and Corban, and added 12 digs, five aces, seven block assists, and a solo block. Other nominees: Marcella Hernandez, College of Idaho; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Leanne Stennett, Southern Oregon; Megan Marineau, Warner Pacific; Raluca Dinca, Concordia; Jenny Harman, Corban.
Setter – Southern Oregon’s Angela Spieker (Bremerton, Wash.), a freshman setter, finished the week with 45 assists despite playing in a two-setter offense. Spieker, who helped SOU hit a combined .315 in two victories, had 24 assists vs. Corban and 21 vs. NCU. Libero – Southern Oregon’s Becky Johnstone (Lake Arrowhead, Calif.), a sophomore libero, helped key No. 12 Southern Oregon to 3-0 victories over Corban and Northwest Christian, as the Raiders ran their winning streak to 12 straight. Johnstone had 12 digs vs. Corban and 13 vs. NCU. Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Concordia’s Jessica Ramback (Mill Creek, Wash.), a senior forward, had three goals and two assists in the CCC Tournament semifinal vs. Corban. Ramback tied her career single-game high with eight points. It marked the third time in her collegiate career she has scored at least three goals in a game.
Defensive – Concordia’s Brittany Orr (Federal Way, Wash.), a sophomore defender, keyed CU’s defensive effort as it posted its 11th shutout of the season with a 7-0 victory over Corban in the CCC Tournament. Orr has started all 19 games and helped the Cavs post a 0.62 goals-against average.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Concordia’s Jared Brace (Vancouver, Wash.), a freshman midfielder, scored three goals and added two assists to help CU to a 2-0 record. Brace had one goal vs. College of Idaho and two goals and an assist vs. Northwest Christian. All his scoring vs. NCU came in the first half. The first-year collegian leads the CCC with 12 goals. Other nominees: Luke Fischer, Northwest; Takashi Matsuno, Evergreen; Peter Martin, Corban.
Defensive – Corban’s Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.), a senior goalkeeper, posted back-to-back shutouts to help Corban to an undefeated week. The 5-10 goalkeeper registered a combined 12 saves in helping lead the Warriors to wins over Oregon Tech and College of Idaho. Other nominees: Nathan Salveson, Evergreen; Will Snow, Concordia.
Golf
Men – Concordia’s Jed Dalton (Seattle, Wash.), a freshman, finished eighth in a field of 59 by firing rounds of 72-77-78 at the Mustang Invitational in Santa Clarita, Calif. Dalton placed eighth individually to help the Cavaliers to a sixth-place team finish in a tournament which included some of the country’s top NAIA teams and the defending NCAA Division II national champion, Sonoma State.
