SOU Men Continue Torrid Start - Move To 5-1

ASHLAND, ORE. -- The Southern Oregon men continued with their torrid start with an 87-67 rout of Simpson tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

With the victory, Southern Oregon improved to 5-1 on the season - the program’s best start since the 2005-06 team started the season 15-1. Simpson dropped to 1-8 on the year.

Justonn Smith led the Raiders with 15 points and seven rebounds. Drew Herrera had 14 points and seven assists, Roland Johnson and Chris Mackovjak both had 13 points and Humphrey Jackson finished with 11 points.

Simpson was led by Jason Stubbs’ game-high 19 points.

The Raiders took a 48-33 halftime lead after shooting 58 percent from the field in the first half. It was much more of the same in the second half as the lead ballooned well into double-digits.

SOU shot 57 percent in the second half and finished the game shooting 57 percent on 34 of 59 shots.

Southern Oregon returns to action Friday and Saturday when they host the annual Flagship Inn Invitational. Oregon Tech opens the tournament up Friday at 5:30 against Willamette and Southern Oregon battles William Jessup at 7:30 p.m.
