Pioneers Pull Away Late to Defeat Cavaliers
PORTLAND, Ore.—For the second straight week, Concordia alternated wins and losses in matches against teams from the Northwest Conference as Lewis & Clark defeated the Cavaliers 77-74 on Tuesday.
After defeating Pacific, the Concordia (4-2) fell to defending NCAA DIII champions George Fox before claiming a home win against Pacific Lutheran. Lewis & Clark improved to 3-1 on the year.
Trailing at the half, Concordia grabbed a brief lead in the second period only to see Lewis & Clark climb back into the contest.
Danielle Clauson registered a team-high 20 points after connecting on 8 of 14 shooting. Kourtney Craft added a dozen while Sarah Eischen scored 10 points as well as tying for the team lead with five rebounds.
The Pioneers were paced by a game-high of 27 points from Kristina Williams who hit 11 of 19 shots including a trio of threes. Teammate Christina Herring matched CU’s Clauson with 20.
Both teams snared 36 rebounds while the home Pioneers were forced into 24 turnovers compared to 19 for the Cavs. L&C shot 52.1 percent from the field while the Cavaliers converted on 47.6 percent of their chances, despite hitting just 1 of 9 from beyond the three-point line in the second period.
Concordia will next take the court on Nov. 28 when it travels south to face Simpson College in Redding, Calif.
