Northwest U. Pulls Away for Win Over Linfield
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University broke open a close first half to pull away and defeat Linfield College, 79-59, in a non-conference contest tonight. It was NU's first home game since October 31, and five straight road games.
With Linfield holding a slim lead for 9 minutes in the first half, Northwest U. took over the lead on Blake Solomon’s 3-pointer, 15-13, with 11:57 left in the half. The lead would change hands several times, but with the game knotted at 22-22, NU would go on an 18-0 run to take a commanding 40-22 lead with 1:37 to go in the first half. Four straight points by Solomon would give the Eagles a 44-26 halftime lead.
In the second half, Northwest would slowly increase their lead with their largest lead of 29 points, 76-47, coming with 1:37 remaining in the game.
Senior guard Blake Solomon (Kent, Wash.) led Northwest U. (3-3) with 18 points including 4-8 shooting from the 3-point arc. Teammate Greg Peters (Belmont, St. Vincent) recorded a double-double on the night with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Greg George (Seattle, Wash.) added 12 points and 7 rebounds and junior Tyson Christie (Sherwood, Ore.) added 8 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles. NU held a 51-30 rebounding margin and shot 50% for the game.
Linfield (0-2) was led by Cody Tesoro’s game high 22 points. K.C. Wiser added 8 points and 5 rebounds for the Wildcats as Northwest’s defense held them to 37% shooting from 2-point FG range.
NU remains at home next weekend as they open CCC play against the College of Idaho on Friday, Dec. 4 and Eastern Oregon on Saturday, Dec. 5
