Raiders Wrap Up Perfect Preseason
ASHLAND, ORE. -- The Southern Oregon women wrapped up a perfect preseason by knocking off Cal Maritime 73-63 today at McNeal Pavilion.
The 18th-ranked Raiders are now 8-0 on the season and open Cascade Conference play at home Friday against Concordia. Cal Maritime fell to 2-6 on the season.
Jacki Speer led the Raiders with 23 points, 15 rebounds, six blocks and four steals - her seventh double-double in eight games. Emily Brookins finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double and Krystal Smith also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
Brookins kept the Raiders alive in the first half, scoring 13 points to help the Raiders survive a 23 percent shooting effort and lead 28-23 at the half.
In the second half, Speer took over scoring 18 of her 23 points as the Raiders shot 43 percent to take control of the game.
Southern Oregon again lived at the free throw line, making 24 of 36 - while Cal Maritime made 6 of 10 for the game.
Taylor Himmelspach led Cal Maritime with 21 points.
