SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Southern Oregon University men’s team placed three runners in the top six while the College of Idaho women had five scoring runners in the top-12 as both teams won Cascade Collegiate Conference championships on Saturday for the second straight season. David Laney of SOU and Alice Taylor of Concordia won the men’s and women’s individual titles.
Southern Oregon, ranked #1 in the NAIA national coaches poll, won the event with 39 points, distancing themselves from #11 College of Idaho by 23. In third-place was #19 Eastern Oregon, edging out #25 Concordia, 86-87.
Laney took the Individual title in a time of 24:44, beating out Martin Romero-Clark from Concordia (25:00). Rounding out the individual top-five were D.J. Flores of Eastern Oregon, Greg Montgomery from the College of Idaho, and Dennis McCaffrey of Southern Oregon.

On the women’s side, College of Idaho, ranked #6 in the NAIA, scored 36 points. The battle for second-place was hotly contested with three teams coming within two points of each other. Concordia took second with 94 points, followed by Southern Oregon in third with 95, and # 19 Eastern Oregon in fourth with 96.
Alice Taylor broke a course record, winning the women’s event in 17:40. Karlee Coffey from Eastern Oregon took second, followed by Stephanie Helm of College of Idaho in third. Seena Frantz from Southern Oregon took fourth while Tegan Troutner from C of I finished fifth.
The Southern Oregon men and the College of Idaho women earn automatic berths in the NAIA Cross Country National Championships, taking place on November 21st at the Fort Vancouver Historical Site in Vancouver, Wash. At-large bids and individual qualifiers will be announced by the NAIA on Monday.
