LA GRANDE, Ore. – The University of Montana Western men’s basketball team dominated its opponents while at the 2009 Aramark Quinn Classic.

The Bulldogs outscored their competition by 43 points while at the four-team, two-day classic. UMW eased past Walla Walla University Saturday evening, 99-72. JaRon Brown of Western was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Layne Glaus, a Bulldogs’ guard, was named to the All-tournament team.

Walla Walla came as close four in the second half before the Bulldogs stretched the lead out to 20 points and cruised to the victory in the end. The Wolves, led by All-tournament team player Mark Moore, played extremely well at the classic defeating Montana Tech Friday and playing Western close for much of the game Saturday.

Eastern Oregon University rebounded from its opening day loss to defeat Montana Tech, 69-42. The Mountaineers were led by Thomas McCarthy’s 14 points. The junior scored 25 points in the classic this year.

EOU shot 52 percent from the field and Tech was 25 percent from the field. Eastern continues to struggle from the free throw line to begin the season. The Mountaineers entered the game shooting 63 percent from the line, and EOU was 33 percent (3 for 9) Saturday.

Eastern’s Jordan Gregg was named to the all-tournament team. The senior was productive for the Mountaineers scoring 17 points in the classic, and rebounding 12 misses. He was 7 for 18 in the pair of games. Josh Cottle had 10 points for EOU, and Dan Stafford had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Dean Colbray of Montana Tech was the final member of the all-tournament team. After scoring 34 points against Walla Walla Friday, Colbray scored just six Saturday. The Orediggers had three players score eight points, which was the team-high.
