PORTLAND, Ore. – College of Idaho’s men’s basketball team has forfeited its Dec. 5 victory over Evergreen due to the use of an ineligible player.

C of I’s situation involved the use of a student-athlete who had been ejected from the team’s previous game. According to NAIA rules, student-athletes or coaches ejected from a game for any reason are required to sit out the institution’s next contest on a first offense.

“It’s a straight-forward rule we are supposed to know and implement,” said College of Idaho athletic director Marty Holly. “Our coach’s understanding was that sitouts applied only to fighting ejections, which this was not. Nonetheless, we did not properly administer the penalty, and it cost us.  It will not happen again.”

As a result of the forfeit, College of Idaho’s adjusted win-loss record is 2-5 overall, 0-2 in the CCC.  Evergreen’s adjusted record is 6-4 overall, 1-1 in the CCC.
