Falcons Overpower Cavs in Non-Conference Tilt
SEATTLE—Between 14 points by Daesha Henderson and 14 turnovers by the Concordia in the first half, Seattle Pacific dropped the Cavaliers 92-48 in non-conference women’s basketball action held at the Brougham Pavilion on Saturday night.
The Falcons, three-time defending Great Northwest Athletic Conference champions and currently ranked No. 19 in NCAA Division II, carried a 47-22 lead at the half and cruised to the win to improve to 5-0 all-time against CU.
Concordia (6-4), ranked No. 22 in the NAIA, will next take the floor on Dec. 18 when it travels across town to face Cascade Collegiate Conference foe Warner Pacific. Opening tip against the Knights is set for 5:30 p.m. in Portland, Ore. SPU improved to 5-1 on the year.
“There is reason why they have had a lot of success here,” CU head coach Aaron Christian said. “They are a good team with good players but we will have to turn around and find ways to fix some of those small mistakes that we kept doing tonight.”
After finishing with a 25-lead The Falcons would extend its lead to a 34-point advantage with a Rachel Murray three with 13:30 to play and later to as many as 45 late in the half.
Rachel Bristow led the Cavaliers with nine points, all of which occurred in the second half while Sarah Eischen added eight. Concordia was limited to 29.8 percent shooting from the floor compared to 43.8 percent for the home Falcons. SPU outrebounded CU 49-to-38 and forced the Cavs into 26 turnovers for the game.
Led by a 4-for-4 performance, CU connected on 13-of-14 from the free throw line for an 87.5 rate.
Henderson would lead all scorers with 20 points after firing 8 of 13 from the field, including 3 of 5 from three-point land. Megan Hoisington chipped in with 11 points and Sydney Benson added 10.
Both teams finished with seven blocks with CU’s Ann Snodderly leading the way with four rejections.
