Senior Monique Tribble registered the first double-double of her Warrior career, as she tallied game-high totals in both points and rebounds tonight against Simpson.

SALEM, Ore. – Senior Monique Tribble (Coquille, Ore.) scored a game-high tying 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds, as Corban's women's basketball team extended its winning streak to two games thanks to a victory over Simpson, 69-52, Saturday night inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
Following its perfect and unbeaten week in two games, Corban improves to 3-8 overall this season. Meanwhile, Simpson remains winless at 0-14 overall.
Tribble was aided scoring-wise by sophomore Katie Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) and freshman Emily Tsugawa (Gladstone, Ore.), who tallied 14 and 12 points respectively. The duo combined to shoot 11-for-16 from the field that included a 3-for-4 showing from three-point range. Along with Tribble's game-high performance on the boards, sophomore Rachel Harter (Grass Valley, Calif.) came off the bench to grab six rebounds to go along with Twugawa's five-rebound, five-assist showing.
In the opening half, Corban quickly grabbed a six-point lead (6-0) in the first two minutes before Simpson used a 17-4 run over a span of 5:29 en route to grabbing a seven-point lead (17-10) following a Paige Barrett lay-in with 12:04 left. The host Warriors would answer back with an 8-1 run of their own that knotted things at 18-all thanks to a Tsugawa jumper with just under five minutes remaining. Simpson would push its lead back to five points (27-22) after an Elizabeth Thomas jumper in the paint with 2:34 on the clock. Corban would close out the first twenty minutes of action with an 8-0 run that concluded with a three-pointer by sophomore Becky Buhler (Clackamas, Ore.) with 22 seconds remaining. The host Warriors would go into the locker room with a three-point advantage (30-27) following a combined 12-for-26 (46.2%) shooting from the field versus Simpson's 8-for-31 (25.8%) showing in the first half.
The second half was all Corban, as the Warriors slowly built its lead to a game-high 22 points (57-35) after a Steigleman jumper with 9:05 left in the game. Simpson would get as close as 15 points (67-52) thanks to a pair of Kylie Shaw free throws before Corban scored the game's final points on a lay-in by freshman Katerina Nilo (Athens, Greece) with four seconds left for the final margin of 17 points (69-52).
Simpson was led in scoring by Leslie Hirshfield, who scored a game-high tying 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field that included a perfect 4-for-4 showing from three-point range. Hirshfield was aided by Thomas and Dominque Simmons, who tallied 15 and 9 points respectively. On the boards, Shaw pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds to go along with a game-high six assists in 40 minutes of action.
As a team, Corban shot 27-for-57 (47.4%) from the field that included a 15-for-31 (48.4%) showing over the game's final twenty minutes. On the other hand, Simpson was 14-for-65 (21.5%) from the field and only connected on 6-of-34 (17.6%) shots in the second half. The host Warriors made a game-high seven three-pointers, while going a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line.
Corban will return to the court on Monday, December 21st, when they return to Cascade Collegiate Conference play and host the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
