Raiders Snap Skid, Down Beacons
ASHLAND, ORE. -- A 9-0 second half run was more than enough as the ninth-ranked Southern Oregon women scored an 86-71 victory over Northwest Christian tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders improved to 13-3 overall and 2-3 in Cascade Conference play with the victory. Northwest Christian fell to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
Jacki Speer, in foul trouble in the first half, led the Raiders with 20 points and also nine rebounds and two blocks. Ashley Baker had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Carly Wood and Emily Brookins both finished with 12 points. Krystal Smith had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Aly Bruns turned in a team-high 14 points for the Beacons.
The Raiders held the Beacons to 37 percent shooting in the first half and led 40-37 at the intermission. In the second half, the Raiders took off on a 9-0 run, led by a pair of layups by Smith.
A layup by Scheffler gave the Raiders a 70-55 lead with 8:22 to play and SOU cruised from there, shooting 52 percent in the second half.
Southern Oregon returns to action tomorrow night when they host Corban.
