PORTLAND, Ore.—After clutching to a three-point lead at the half, Eastern Oregon shot 59.1 percent from the field in the second half to defeat Concordia 63-51 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night.

With the win, Eastern Oregon improved to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the CCC while CU dropped to 8-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

The Cavaliers never led in the game but managed four ties, the last occurring with 10:14 to play in the first as CU forward Danielle Clauson connected on a jumper to even the game at 12-12.

Later in the half, EOU’s Samantha Flett converted a pair of free throw with 7:41 remaining to give the Mountaineers a six-point gap before the two teams traded baskets down the stretch. Eastern took advantage of the final score of the period as Kelsie Hurliman drained a three-pointer with just less than two minutes remaining to give the Mountaineers a 26-23 edge at the break.

The Cavs would get to within a single point with the score 28-27 via a Rachel Scarpelli trey at 16:56, but the visitors responded with a 16-4 run, nine of which came from senior forward Tana Stickney, over the next six minutes to grab a double-digit lead

Stickey would later extend the Mountaineer lead to 19 with the score 60-41 after a pair of free throw makes with 4:34 to play. The Cavs scored 10 of the final 13 points to finish with the 12-point deficit.

Stickney led all scorers with 19 points on a 7 of 14 shooting performance and added a game-high 10 rebounds for the double-double. Flett also reached double figures with 15 points while adding five rebounds and three steals.

Clauson paced the Cavs with 14 points after shooting 4 of 11 from the floor. Clauson got to the free throw line on 11 occasions, hitting six attempts from the charity stripe. Megan Padilla added nine while Sarah Eischen finished with eight points.

The Mountaineers concluded the contest with a 42-35 advantage in rebounds and ended up shooting 45.1 percent from the floor while holding the Cavaliers to 33.3 percent on 19 of 57 attempts.

Concordia returns to action on Thursday when it hosts College of Idaho. EOU will continue its road trip by traveling to face Warner Pacific. Both games are set for a 5:30 p.m. start in Portland.
