Late Surge Lifts Warner Pacific Over C of I

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific scored the final six points of the game to turn a 3 point deficit into a 65-62 win over The College of Idaho in conference play tonight in C.C. Perry Gym.

Kristina Schumacher made two layups in the final 1:26 to provide the needed scoring in the final moments. Cameryn Calhoun sank two free throws with 11 seconds remaining to ensure the final margin, as C of I’s Brette Rubie couldn’t connect on a leaning three point attempt at the buzzer.

The Knights built a six point halftime lead, which they stretched to 10 with 9:36 left to play. The ‘Yotes clawed back to take a 62-59 lead on a Katie Strunk jump shot, but the visitors would not score again and WP surged ahead.

The game proved to be a grinder of a contest, as 43 fouls were called and the teams combined for 61 turnovers. Kelsey Mattsen and Marissa Towry led the Knights with 15 points each.

Katie Strunk, Brette Rubie, and Whitney Owen each tallied 12 points for C of I.

The Knights improve to 7-6 and 2-2 in CCC play. College of Idaho saw a 5 game winning streak snapped and fall to 8-4 and 4-1 in conference.
