KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Oregon Tech Lady Owls used a 14-0 first half run to pull away from Corban College to pick up an impressive 74-51 victory at Danny Miles court.
Oregon Tech improves to 9-8 on the season and 2-3 in Cascade Conference play. Corban drops to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the conference standings.
Oregon Tech sophomore Aundrea Albright started the game with some aggression, shooting 3-of-6 from the field and snagging 6 rebounds by the half.
Smart passing by the Lady Owls allowed for a consistent 48.4% from the field and 9 assists by half time. Junior Brittany Cherry widened the lead for OIT, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, capitalizing on a 14-0 run with a drive to the hoop.
Bend, Oregon native Morgan Hofman also contributed with 8 points and 3 rebounds as OIT finished the half leading Corban University 38-22.
Corban started the second half behind and struggled as they fell even further behind. The Lady Owls capped off their first 20 point lead with 17:00 left to play and held firm for the remainder of the game. Junior Jazzy McDaniel came off the bench shooting 4-of-6 from the field, snatching 3 steals, and draining a three pointer for insurance.
The Owls locked down the Warriors defensively, holding the visitors to just 33.3% on 19-of-57 shooting. Tech finished 46.6% from the floor, including 7-of-17 from the three point line and 27-for-58 overall. Tech also won the battle on the boards, holding a 46-to-31 advantage.
OIT finished the game with 5 blocks, 7 steals, and 19 assists.
Rachel Harter and Becky Buhler led the Warriors with seven points each, followed by Jennesa Miller and Monique Tribble with six apiece. Harter and Buhler also grabbed a team-high five rebounds in the loss.
Ten Owls finished in the scoring column, led by a game-high 14 points from Kelsey New, followed by 10 from Brittany Cherry. Morgan Hofman, Lisa Busch, Jazzy McDaniel and Kellie Morey all netted nine points each in the win. Nicole Morgan grabbed a game-high eight rebounds with Cherry and Aundrea Albright coming away with seven each.
Oregon Tech will look to even their conference mark as the Owls host Northwest Christian College tomorrow evening beginning at 5:30 pm.
