Hustlin' Owl Defense Slays Warner Pacific
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - No. 11 ranked Oregon Tech ran their home winning streak to 25-straight, as the Owls captured a 71-62 victory over No. 5 ranked Warner Pacific in tonight's Cascade Collegiate Conference opener.
Oregon Tech improves to 10-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference standings. Warner Pacific falls to 5-3 and 0-1 in CCC play with the loss.
The first period went back-and-forth as neither team could shake each other.
Warner Pacific took a five point lead, their largest of the half, at the 9:18 mark on a Jared Mace 3-pointer that gave the Knights a 22-17 advantage.
The Owls then went on a 9-0 spurt, capped by an Andy Siverly layup, to give Tech a 26-22 lead. The Owls then took the same four point spread to intermission leading the Knights 35-31.
The Owls held on to a slim 37-36 lead with 17:04 to play, but that was as close as the Knights would get in the contest. An ensuing 10-2 Owl run gave Tech a comfortable 47-38 lead with 13:52 remaining.
Warner Pacific cut the Owl lead to five points, 53-48, but the Tech defense clamped down with 9:47 on the clock. In the next six minute span the Owls got back-to-back treys from Justin Parnell and Joseph Foster, while finishing off the eight-point run with a Brent Johnson jumper.
In that time frame Warner Pacific did not score until a Kaylone Riley basket cut the spread to 11, as the Owls held a commanding 61-50 lead with 3:54 remaining in the game.
Oregon Tech did not let the Knights get closer than nine points for the remainder, taking the game by a final of 71-62.
Joseph Foster led Tech with 15 points and handed out a game-high six assists. Justin Parnell had a nice all-around game with 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while defensively holding WPC leading scorer, Jake Glisson, to only one point in the contest. Andy Siverly sparkled with a 12 point and 10 rebound performance in the win. Miles Daley and Brent Johnson both finished with seven points, while Mike Niearaeth grabbed seven boards to go with five points and two assists.
The Knight finished with three players in double figures, led by a double-double 16 points and 10 rebounds from Kaylone Riley. Reggie Guyton netted 15 points with Marcel
