OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team picked up a Cascade Collegiate Conference season opening victory Friday, 59-54.
Evergreen’s Latrina Woods’ 23 points wasn’t enough as the Mountaineers improve to 6-3 on the season and begin conference play at 1-0. Ashlee Michelson led EOU with 18 points. The senior was 5 for 10 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. Tana Stickney added 11 points for Eastern Oregon.
The Geoducks led 24-14 with 5:03 remaining in the first half. Eastern head coach Anji Weissenfluh called a timeout and the Mountaineers responded with an 11-0 run to close the half.
Eastern Oregon shot 40 percent from the field and 31 percent from behind the perimeter. TESC was 39 percent from the field and 28 percent for three-pointers. Evergreen shot only four free throws, making two.
The Mountaineers play at Northwest University Saturday evening. The Eagles lost to The College of Idaho Friday, 80-51. In other opening CCC action from Friday, Northwest Christian beat Corban, 68-53; Oregon Tech edged Warner Pacific, 65-61; and No. 12 Southern Oregon defeated No. 19 Concordia, 66-62.
