St. Martin's Upends Northwest in Exhbition

LACEY, Wash. – St. Martin’s University pulled away from Northwest University for a 63-46 win tonight. The game was an exhibition for Northwest U.

St. Martin’s broke out to a 5-0 early lead, but Northwest U. would come back to tie the game at 11-11, on Erika Hornyak’s jumper with 10:46 to go in the first half. After another tie at 15 a piece, SMU would go on a 7-0 run to take the lead at 22-15 at the 6:23 mark. A steal by SMU and layup by Dara Zack would put SMU up 32-18 with 2:51 left on the clock until intermission. A 3-pointer at 1:31 and free throw with 56 seconds to go by SMU’s Megan Teade would increase the SMU lead 26-19 as the first half would come to and end.
 
In the second half, SMU’s Krissy Bassett’s jumper with 18:58 to go in the game would give the Saints a 21 point lead at 42-21. Layups by Northwest’s McKenzie McKean and Kailee Oliver would cut the SMU lead to 59-35 with 6:35 left, but that’s the closest NU would get as St. Martin’s would hold on and build their lead back up to 26, 63-37 at the 4:15 mark  and go on for their fifth victory of the season.
 
Sophomore Jessalyn Jackson led Northwest U. (4-4, 1-1 CCC) with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double and Alexa Breidenbach added 10 points and 7 rebounds for the Eagles who shot 32% for the game.
 
Dara Zack scored a double-double for St. Martin’s (5-2) with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Krissy Bassett added 14 points and 7 rebounds for the Saints who managed 35% shooting from 2-point range and 50% shooting from beyond the 3-point line. SMU out rebounded NU 45-42.
