KANSAS CITY, Mo.—With 343 total votes, the Concordia University women’s golf team garnered its highest ranking in the history of the program when it entered the season ranked No. 5 in the NAIA, the national office announced.

The NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches' Top 25 Poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups. The first regular season rating will be announced on Feb. 26.

The Cavaliers were ranked No. 15 in the final 2008-09 poll before finishing in seventh place at the NAIA National Championships last May. The Cavs return four of its top five individuals from a year ago, including first-team All-American Lindsay Aho. Defending national champion Oklahoma City University was named the No. 1 team in the preseason poll. The Stars earned 11 first-place votes for 401 points.

California Baptist University and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) were tied for second with 387 points. The Lancers were also awarded four first-place votes. The top-five was rounded out by Northwood University (Fla.) with 349 points and followed by Concordia.

The Concordia men’s team earned a single vote in the NAIA Men’s Golf Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The two-time defending Cascade Collegiate Conference champion Cavaliers were ranked as high as No. 32 in the NAIA polls last season and return eight members of its team from a year ago.

Oklahoma City University was been named the No. 1 team in the preseason poll.The Stars earned all 19-possible first-place votes for 529 points. Oklahoma City captured third place at the NAIA Men’s Golf Championship last season.

Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) was ranked second with 509 points, followed by the University of South Carolina – Beaufort with 483 points, Johnson & Wales University (Fla.) with 461 points and Lee University round out the top five with 455 points. The defending national champion, Oklahoma Christian, is ranked 11th.
