Whitney Owen had 27 points in C of I win
Owen's 27 Leads C of I Past OIT, 73-68
CALDWELL, Idaho - Whitney Owen had a career night, scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds, with her steal and two free throws with three seconds left sealing a 73-68 College of Idaho victory over Oregon Tech, tonight in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The No. 8 ranked Lady Yotes (22-2, 13-1 CCC) built a 62-54 lead with six minutes left, but watched as Nicole Morgan drained three consecutive three-pointers, drawing OIT within 66-65 with three minutes remaining. A Kellie Morey lay-up with 1:12 left pulled the Owls within 69-68 - just starting the late-game drama.
The C of I would see Christon Vander Esch make the first of two free throws to push the lead to two, but missed the second, allowing Tech a chance. However, Meagan Miyasaka was called for a double-dribble with 23 seconds left. The Yotes would give OIT (12-11, 5-9) another crack at it, as Nicole Gall made 1-of-2 free throws and Vander Esch missed a pair, but Megan Ross was stripped of the ball by Owen at half court, with her two free throws giving the Yotes the final cushion.
Despite battling foul trouble all night, Vander Esch had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Yotes, with Gall adding 13. Morgan and Morey each had 20 points in the loss for OIT.
The Lady Yotes return to action next weekend, traveling Friday to Corban and Saturday to No. 15 ranked Concordia. Both games will be carried live in the Treasure Valley on 1490 KCID-AM.
