Cavalier Trio Erupts for 102-88 Win Over Multnomah
PORTLAND, Ore. –Concordia’s Gage Aker, Jourdan Sweeney and Alex Tiefenthaler combined for 70 points and 49 rebounds as the Cavaliers ousted Multnomah 102-88 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Tuesday night.
With the result, both teams moved to 9-17 on the year. Concordia returns to action this Friday when it stays in Portland for a road match at Cascade College. The following day, the Cavaliers will make another cross-town trip to face Warner Pacific. Both contests are slated for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
“It was an interesting night as Multnomah is always hard to prepare for because of how they play and shoot the ball with range. We are certainly pleased with the win as it’s always a tough game at this point of the season,” Concordia head coach Brad Barbarick said.
Unleashing a 62.8 percent shooting performance in the first half, Concordia mounted a seven-point lead over the Lions, who fired 31 three-point attempts in the first half, connecting on eight.
Concordia’s shooting slowed in the second, but still outscored the home team 43-42 in the period behind a dominating presence on the glass. Overall, the Cavs collected 62 rebounds compared to 28 for Multnomah.
Aker grabbed a career-high 18 boards to help give three CU players double-doubles. Sweeney led the floor with 31 points after shooting 15-of-23 from the field while Tiefenthaler out up 23 points and 11 rebounds.
“We got a big performance from Jourdan tonight in only 25 minutes of action. Gage and Alex were huge for us on the glass as well,” Barbarick said.
Nicolas Kamlade led Multnomah with 34 points on a 12-of-22 effort from the floor. Multnomah hoisted 53 three-point attempts in the game, converting 16 for a 30.2 percent exchange.
After the efficient first half, the Cavs settled for a 51.9 percent shooting percentage for the contest.
