Beacons Rally Late To Down Raiders
The Northwest Christian men’s basketball team ended the game on a 6-1 run over the last 5:31 to score a 64-59 victory over Southern Oregon tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
Northwest Christian improved to 15-11 overall and 9-8 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon dropped to 9-18 overall and 7-11 in conference action. Thanks to Eastern Oregon’s victory over Northwest, the Raiders remain in seventh place by a half-game.
Dylan Perry led four Beacons in double-digits with 16 points. Jordan Whittenburg finished with 15 points.
Humphrey Jackson had a team-high 12 points for the Raiders, while Eli Thornton and Austin Wolfer both had 10 points.
The Raiders appeared to be in control at the half after shooting 48 percent and leading 35-29 at the intermission.
The Beacons turned the tables on the Raiders in the second half, holding the hosts to 34 percent shooting.
A layup by Andrew Miller tied the game for the ninth time in the game at 50-50 with 10:36 to play. The game would be tied three times more, including 58-58 with 5:31 to play and the Raiders went up 59-58 with 1:35 left on a Wolfer free throw.
But after that it was all Northwest Christian.
Whittenburg scored five of the Beacons six points down the stretch to ice the victory.
Jackson and Wolfer both finished with seven rebounds.
SOU wraps up the regular season next weekend when they travel to Corban (Friday) and Concordia (Saturday).
